Lucerne Day 3, Sunday, May 17, 2015

Last night, Saturday, we had dinner at a sidewalk restaurant along Lake Lucene and the walk back to our hotel was beautiful as you can see by these two pictures.

This the Old Covered Wood Bridge in downtown Lucerne.

Today, Sunday, May 17, we got up early and we were trying to decide if we wanted to go up to Mt. Titlis today or to go to the museum here in town.  (I am sure the name of Titlis must have a different meaning to the locals than what comes to my mind!!)

The weather this morning was partially cloudy with a higher layer of clouds limiting our view of the mountains from town.  Since we were not able to see very far yesterday on Mt. Pilatus we were not sure we wanted to go today but decided to push ahead anyway.  We are so thankful that we did.  We took a train to the town of Engelberg where we met the first of four lifts up the mountain.  The weather in Engelberg was cloudy but no rain.  By the time we stopped at the first lift stop we were above the clouds and the view was amazing.  I get goose bumps just thinking of the views as I write this email.  The pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this area, especially since many of them are shot through train, gondola, or restaurant windows.

As we left the train station on our way to Engelberg I noticed that the tracks are designed for two different size trains.  One set of rails is a little narrower than the other.

Last leg. This gondola revolves 360 degrees

Just one of the spectacular views from the top of Mt. Titlis.  Elevation is 10,000 feet.  I was surprised that I actually felt a little light headed and winded at this altitude.  Sherl, with her past heart issue did just  fine.

A walk in the ice cave.  The floor was solid ice so you had to be very careful walking through the cave.  Last thing we needed was to fall....

We have really enjoyed our short visit here in Lucerne, especially in the older part of town but we are ready to start the next phase in this wonderful vacation.  On to Lauterbrunnen tomorrow morning.

Good night all,
